The J Petrucci and Son Shiraz is a rich robust style of wine with ripe fruit flavors surrounded by full-bodied tannins and an earthy complexity. It captures the depth and intensity of the region with a powerful bouquet and sophisticated palate. The appearance is deep plum red with youthful flashes of violet. It is dense and opaque coacting the glass with viscous alcoholic legs. The bouquet is powerful and immediately obvious. It fills the air with the perfume of ripe blackberries and savoury smokey tapenades. Allowing it a little breathing space reveals an earthy complexity of game flavours. The opening pallet is dominated by big fruit flavours which are quickly overwhelmed by a surge of smokey bacon, olives and liquorice. The tannins are pronounced and a solid grip that lingers in the mouth as the back palate shows some mocha and white pepper spice. This finish is long and dry with a little lift of alcohol heat.
